Merely
20 km from Worcester, situated on the R43 towards Ceres, off the N1 to
the north, you will find Botha Wine Cellar.
|
| The Cape Dutch style wine
tasting centre forms part of an imposing cellar complex that is
situated in the Breedekloof valley and is surrounded by several
mountain ranges, which, especially when covered with snow, provides a
breathtaking vista. The age-old tradition of wine making was continued
here in the late forties when a group of sixteen farmers started the
wine cellar in 1949.

Today the 40 members deliver 30 000 tons of grapes
to this modern co-operative cellar which has the newest technology and
equipment, resulting in excellent wines. The Cellar Master, Gerrit van
Zyl, ably assisted by wine makers, Johan Linde and Michiel Visser, as
well as viticulture expert, Hennie Visser, ensures the high quality of
wines produced.
|
| The red wine range includes the traditional single
cultivar wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz, and
Merlot. A special reserve range of red wines, matured in French oak, is
the cellars top range. The best known of all the Botha wines is of
course the much sought after, Dassies Rood, a soft, fruity, dry red
blended wine which is very highly thought of by wine lovers. The
portfolio is rounded off with a white grape juice and three fortified
wines.
