GROOT EILAND WINE CELLAR was established in 1961 with 13 members and has expanded over the years so that it today has 31 members.

The producers all maintain a healthy balance between the vegetative faculty and the yield of the vineyards. The cool region, at the foot of the Du Toits Koof mountains, fertile areas and terroir of the vineyard gives Groot Eiland Cellar the opportunity to produce a wide variety of wine styles of exceptional quality.

The cellar drives its name, Big Island, from the fact that the cellar and its farms are virtually surrounded by the waters of the Breede and Molenaars Rivers.
