Romansrivier Winery in the Breedekloof wine district has been renamed Mountain Ridge Wines. Francois Agebag is the winemaker. The winery, situated on the R43 between Worcester and Wolseley, is nestled between the Mosterthoek Twins and Elandskloof Mountains, which was the inspiration behind the name Mountain Ridge. Besides the name, Mountain Ridge Wines has also witnessed changes in the range and style of wines produced. "We now have a larger selection of easy drinking white and red wines, as well as oak matured red wines," said Agenbag. The eight wines produced are a Sauvignon Blanc, a Chenin Blanc, a Chenin Blanc - Colombar blend, a Malbec - Pinotage blend, a Natural Sweet Rose, a Shiraz Reserve, a Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and Dimension. Dimension is a blend of Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot, which was aged in new oak barrels for 15 months. Of his latest releases, Agenbag is most excited by the quality of his Shiraz Reserve and the Dimension. Their best sellers remain the easy drinking Chenin Blanc - Colombar blend and the Shiraz Reserve, however Mountain Ridge wines have also made a name for offering great value. The Mountain Ridge Shiraz Reserve 2005 won the 2006 Wine Magazine Best Value Shiraz Award. Mountain Ridge Dimension won the Silver Medal from Swiss International Air Lines. Mountain Ridge invites visitors to bring their own picnic baskets.
